What is Auricularia auricula mushroom?

Auricularia auricula-judae, known as the Jew's ear, wood ear, and jelly ear, is a common edible jelly mushroom widely distributed throughout Asia and North America. It is brown, irregular, gelatinous and widely cultivated for use as food and medicine. This mushroom has been used traditionally as medicine in many countries as anti-diabetic, antitumor, antihypertensive, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and antibacterial agents. In recent years, several studies have shown antitumor, immunological, antiinflammatory, and anticoagulant activities of Auricularia auricula mushroom.

Bioactive constituents proved by modern research

Auricularia auricula mushroom is known to have high contents of β-D-glucan, heteropolysaccharide, proteins, minerals(Ca, P, Fe), carotene, vitamin B1, B2, nicotinic acid, lecithine, cephaline, sphingomyeline, ergosterol and 22,23-dihydroergosterol. In recent decades, Auricularia auricula mushroom polysaccharide was found to have potential biological activities such as anti-oxidant, antitumor, anti-diabetic, hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic, anti-inflammatory activities as well as the wound healing promoting effect. It has been reported that water-soluble polysaccharides are responsible for bioactivities such as stimulating the expression of cytokines, potential radio-protective effects. The content of Glucuronic acid is known to be about 15% in water soluble polysaccharides extracted from this mushroom.

Fine Mushroom AM™ from Auricularia auricula

Fine Mushroom AM™ has been developed by FINECO’s unique technology, and it contains mostly water soluble heteropolysaccharides with complicated structure extracted from Auricularia auricula mushroom. Our studies showed that Fine Mushroom AM™ contains acetylated glucomannan similar to the typical polysaccharide found in Aloe that is widely used in skin care industry due to wide application to treat burns and sunburns, to aid wound healing, and to fight against cell aging. We found also that the black brown pigment in Auricularia auricula mushroom extract is a kind of melanin, which is known to protect against UV damage in human skin (Photochem. Photobiol, Vol. 84, No.3, p.539-549, 2008). Fine Mushroom AM™ has high water holding capability, and gives excellent moisturizing e_ect to the skin, because it contains lots of Glucuronic acid as hyaluronic acid does.
